Windows web hosting is a form of web hosting. Learn when to use windows web hosting, how to use windows web hosting, and why to use windows web hosting.
The term ‘Windows web hosting’ is fairly self explanatory – it’s web hosting that uses Windows. Although most web hosting services use Linux or Unix, there are still windows web hosting services available.
When to use windows web hosting?
Windows web hosting isn’t perfect. In my opinion, it’s a lot easier to use Linux. It’s a matter of opinion, though. Just as some people like to use Windows on their desktop computers and some people like to use Linux on their desktop computers, some people like to use Windows on their web hosting and some prefer Linux.
Windows web hosting does have one advantage over Linux web hosting, though. If you have a website that is written in ASP, Microsoft’s version of PHP, you will need windows web hosting to run that website. Most things are written in PHP these days, but there are still ASP scripts around.
Windows web hosting is usually more expensive than Linux web hosting. From a web hosting company’s point of view, it’s a lot cheaper to have a Linux server than a Windows server. Linux servers require maintenance less often and are easier to set up. Linux servers also take up less space on the servers of the web hosting company.
You should only go with windows web hosting if you need it. In my opinion, it’s much better to learn to use a Linux server than a Windows server – Linux servers are usually cheaper. I find Linux servers to be easier to use also.
