Unlimited – real or fake?

It’s hard to decide if unlimited hosting plans really are unlimited. Technically, it’s not possible for anything to be unlimited. There are physical limits on storage space, bandwidth, and other aspects of a web server. What web hosting websites really mean by unlimited is that they won’t monitor and limit what you have – they will just let you use what you need (to a point).

It’s physically impossible for a web host to provide you with unlimited hosting. It can also be a waste of resources. In most cases, web hosts will advertise unlimited hosting, but then remove your services if you use a certain amount of their resources. This isn’t fair, but it’s fairly logical. The hosting company wants users who pay for unlimited hosting plans to pay a little extra for what they don’t use. In most cases, unlimited plans cost more, but that doesn’t mean that the people who pay for unlimited plans use more.

Is unlimited a good plan to buy?

Sometimes unlimited isn’t the best plan to go with. If you don’t need that many resources, it’s not worth the extra money.  And what if a web hosting company advertises unlimited hosting, but they have invisible limits?

It really depends on the hosting company itself. The best way to determine if a hosting website’s plans are really unlimited, or if they kick you off if you use a reasonable amount of resources, is to read reviews by other customers. Most people don’t lie about their experiences with web hosting companies, whether they be positive or negative. There are many websites out there that offer reviews for web hosting companies – look around until you find a web hosting company that offers what you need and also has good reviews.
