The vast majority of web hosts available are CPanel hosts. What is CPanel hosting? What does it do? Why would you use it?

What is CPanel hosting?

CPanel hosting is web hosting that uses CPanel. CPanel is a very popular management panel. With CPanel, you can do just about everything. You add manage DNS (add domains, subdomains, etc), manage files (edit, create, unzip, delete, etc), check the stats of your websites, or do just about anything.

Since CPanel is so easy to use and so feature-rich, it has become a standard for web hosting. Most web hosting companies offer CPanel hosting, or web hosting plans that offer CPanel. I’d give a gift to anyone who can find an established web hosting company that doesn’t offer CPanel. You might be able to a web hosting company that offers CPanel hosting and an option to use a different panel, such as Plesk, but I doubt that you will find a web hosting company that is established and doesn’t offer CPanel. (note: I won’t actually give anyone a gift)

When to use CPanel hosting?

If you aren’t familiar with using command line for actions, you should probably go with a CPanel hosting.

Other web panels are available. There are a few CPanel alternatives that aren’t bad. A more experienced user would be able to use something like that (and maybe save a few bucks), but if you don’t know very much about Linux you should probably get CPanel hosting. CPanel is very easy to use (even a newbie could use it) and you can do just about anything that you need to do from it.

I wouldn’t really say that CPanel hosting is more expensive that non-CPanel hosting. The web hosts that offer CPanel (basically every established web host) are able to get many licenses for the panel for cheap. This means that it doesn’t add to the cost of CPanel hosting.
